This Hand-Painted Ceramic Kung Fu Teacup is a slender conical tasting cup in a pale crackled glaze — fine ice-like lines running across an ivory-green ground — with restrained ink-brush scenes painted over the surface and an unglazed rust-toned foot ring and rim. Each of the four listed versions carries its own subject: koi in the reeds, blue lotus leaves and blossom, hanging persimmons, or a small boat under distant birds. At 50 milliliters it is a personal sip cup for a gongfu tray, and several stack neatly in one hand.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Koi: In Chinese folk belief the koi stands for perseverance and sufficiency — the Chinese word for fish sounds like the word for surplus, and the old legend of koi leaping the Dragon Gate made the fish a longstanding emblem of steady advancement. On the koi version, red fish glide through thin reed strokes across the crackled wall.
Lotus: Rising clean from muddy water to bloom, the lotus is traditionally regarded in Buddhist tradition as a symbol of purity and quiet emergence. The blue lotus version lays broad indigo pads and a single pink flower around the cup's shoulder.
Persimmon: In Chinese folk wordplay the name of the persimmon echoes the word for "matters," so the fruit has traditionally been painted as an emblem of hopes being fulfilled. The persimmon scene hangs two ripe orange fruits from spare ink leaves.
Fishing boat: The skiff is a recurring figure in the Chinese landscape painting tradition, classically used to suggest the literati taste for a quiet life afield. The boat version paints one small hull on pale water beneath a scattering of birds.

Why You'll Love This Tea Cup
The crackle glaze and muted ink scenes give the cup a scholarly, understated look that reads differently from bright overglaze ware, and the web of fine lines deepens with use. The tall 6.6 cm cone concentrates tea aroma at the narrowed rim, and the four scenes are distinct enough that collectors often take the set as a season of subjects.
Care Instructions
Rinse with warm water after each session and wipe with a soft cloth; avoid scouring pads, dishwasher detergents, and long soaking, which can settle into the crackle lines and dull the painted scenes. Dry fully before storing in a dry place out of direct sunlight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the fine lines on the glaze cracks or part of the design?
Part of the design. The cup is finished in a deliberate crackle glaze, a traditional ceramic effect where the glaze surface weaves a fine web of lines. It is a fired characteristic, not damage, and each cup's pattern falls slightly differently.
Do I receive one cup or the stack of four shown?
One cup in the scene you choose — persimmon, boat, koi fish, or blue lotus. The additional cups and any tray in the listing photos are photo props and are not included.
How does the 6.6cm*4.9cm shape drink?
It is a tall, narrow conical tasting cup: about 4.9 cm across the mouth and 6.6 cm high, holding 50 milliliters. The tapered walls gather aroma toward the rim, and the foot ring is sized to rest between fingertips rather than in a full palm.
Which scene suits a gift for a tea beginner?
The koi and blue lotus versions are the most classic tea-cup subjects and pair well with any tray; the persimmon scene is a warm autumn-leaning choice, while the boat scene suits someone who prefers spare landscape ink work over flowers.
