The Purple Clay Laughing Buddha Statue is a small, hand-finished figurine of Budai, the smiling monk familiar from Chinese and Buddhist-influenced decorative art. Carved from purple clay, each piece pairs a smooth, deep brown face and body with a lighter, finely textured robe; the featured figure sits with a wide laughing smile, closed eyes, and both hands raised in an open, cheerful gesture. Sized to rest in an open palm, it is meant for display on a shelf, desk, windowsill, or tea table, and the listing offers a choice of eight poses.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Laughing Buddha (Budai): In Chinese and Buddhist-influenced folk tradition, the Laughing Buddha is a beloved decorative figure traditionally regarded as an embodiment of contentment, good humor, and an easy, lighthearted mind. That cheerful association has made him a longstanding motif in homes, studios, and tea settings.
Smile and round belly: The broad grin and bare, rounded belly are the figure's classic visual language, traditionally read as signs of a satisfied, worry-free disposition. The raised-hands pose seen on the featured piece gives that joy an open, welcoming form, while the praying and meditating options render the same traditional figure in a quieter mood.

Why You'll Love This Figurine
The clay holds fine carved detail in the face, hands, and folds of the robe, so the expression reads clearly from a distance. Its palm-sized footprint fits a desk corner, bookshelf, or tea tray without crowding the space, and the choice of poses lets you match the figure's mood to the setting. It is an easy gift for anyone who enjoys Chinese folk figurines or a tea-table accent.
Care Instructions
Keep the unglazed purple clay away from standing water and harsh cleaners. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush, handle it with clean, dry hands, and store it in a dry spot where it will not be knocked over.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which pose should I choose?
Pick by mood and size. The featured smiling figure with raised hands is the always-smiling version at 7.7x5.1x6.2cm; the happy version measures 7.5x4.9x6.4cm, and the leisurely version is the largest at 9.2x5.5x5.5cm. The praying and meditating options show the same traditional figure in calmer seated poses.
How big is it in real life?
Every sized option stays under 10 cm in its longest dimension and sits comfortably in an open palm, as the listed measurements confirm. If you need it to fit a specific shelf or tea tray, compare those centimetre figures with your available space.
Will my figurine look exactly like the photo?
Very close, but not identical. Each piece is handmade from natural clay, so small irregularities in carving and surface texture appear, and lighting or screen differences can shift the colour slightly from what you see here.
Is it suitable for a tea table?
Yes — its small footprint and stable seated base suit tea tables, shelves, and desks. Because the clay is unglazed, keep it away from splashing water and wipe it with a dry, soft cloth rather than rinsing it.
