This Meditation Praying Buddha Sandstone Figurine is a small carved figure in gray sandstone with a matte, grainy stone finish. The chubby-cheeked Buddha sits cross-legged in a choice of poses — palms pressed together at the chest, one hand raised with the palm outward, or both hands folded in the lap — with dotted snail-shell curls, closed downcast eyes, and a small auspicious mark carved on the chest. A plain wooden base is included with certain options. It is sized for a shelf, desk, altar corner, or tea table.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Buddha figure: In Buddhist tradition the figure of the Buddha is traditionally regarded as a symbol of compassion, serenity, and introspection. This piece presents that imagery in the gentle, childlike style common to decorative Buddha figures from Buddhist-influenced regions, with a calm closed-eye expression and rounded features.
Pressed-palms and raised-hand poses: The central option shows the hands pressed together at the chest, a longstanding gesture of reverence and greeting in South Asian and Buddhist tradition; the raised-hand pose echoes the reassuring hand posture seen in traditional Buddhist iconography. Here both are rendered simply, as the focal gesture of each carved figure.
Chest mark (卍): The small character carved on the robe at the chest is an ancient auspicious emblem in Indic religious traditions, long used in Buddhist sacred art to denote merit and goodness. On this figure it appears as a subtle carved detail on the smooth front of the robe.
Snail-shell curls: The dotted spiral texture across the head follows the traditional hairstyle of Buddha images, used in Buddhist art to identify the enlightened figure.

Why You'll Love This Figurine
The three poses are distinct enough to mix and match, and the set option places all three together as shown. Carved sandstone gives each figure a natural stone weight and a soft matte texture that reads well beside wood, tea ware, and plants. Because the pieces are carved and finished by hand, small variations make each figure one of a kind.
Care Instructions
- Dust with a soft dry brush or cloth; sandstone is porous, so avoid washing or soaking the figure.
- Keep away from perfume, cleaning sprays, and other harsh chemicals that can stain the stone.
- Place on a stable surface where the figure will not be knocked over; the wooden base helps it sit level.
- Store in a dry place when not on display.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the three pose options?
All three are the same size and stone, and only the hand position changes. The praying Buddha presses both palms together at the chest, the hand-raising Buddha lifts one palm outward while the other rests down, and the seated Buddha folds both hands in the lap. The set option includes all three.
Which package should I choose?
Three options are listed: a 3PCS Buddha set, a single Buddha*1, and a Praying Buddha with base and vase. If you want the grouped display shown in the photos, take the 3PCS set; the praying-plus-base option suits a single-figure altar or desk spot.
What does the symbol on the figure's chest mean?
It is the 卍 mark, an ancient auspicious emblem in Indic religious traditions that appears in Buddhist sacred art, traditionally denoting merit and goodness. On this piece it is simply a carved design detail on the robe.
Is the stone finish the same on every figure?
Very close, but not identical. The listing notes that these are handmade natural pieces, so small irregularities in the carving and slight color shifts can occur, and screen lighting changes how the gray tone reads.
Can I put the figurine outdoors?
It is best kept indoors or in a covered spot. Sandstone is porous natural stone, and the listing advises keeping the piece away from prolonged moisture, so open-air rain and frost can discolor or damage it over time.
