This Brass Alloy Incense Burner is cast as a long lashed bamboo raft with a small fisherman in a conical straw hat seated at the bow, rod extended to hold a single incense stick at a gentle upward angle. At 25 cm long and 4.6 cm wide, it works as a decorative object on a desk, tea table, or shelf, with the burning tip positioned above the raft body.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Fisherman on the raft: In Chinese painting and poetry, the lone fisherman on the water is a longstanding literary image traditionally associated with a quiet life close to nature and contentment away from court life. Here the figure is cast small at the bow of the raft, straw hat lowered over the fishing rod.
Bamboo raft: Bamboo has long been admired in Chinese tradition for its hollow stem that bends without breaking, traditionally regarded as a symbol of integrity and resilience. The raft is rendered as a row of lashed bamboo poles with visible nodes and cord bindings running across the deck.
Engraved verse: Pairing poetry with imagery is a classic convention of Chinese literati art, and the listing describes an engraved poetry base with floral detail beneath the scene.

Why You'll Love This Incense Burner
- A scene, not just a holder: the seated fisherman, lashed bamboo poles, and angled incense read together as one small landscape on the desk.
- Smoke trails the raft: with the stick held above the deck, the smoke drifts along the length of the piece while it burns.
- Slim footprint: the 25 cm raft needs only a narrow strip of table, and at about 200 g it sits steady during use.
Care Instructions
Use only stick incense on a stable, heat-resistant surface, and never leave burning incense unattended. Empty cooled ash after use and wipe the alloy with a soft dry cloth. Keep the piece away from water, perfume, and harsh chemicals; the brass-tone finish develops a natural patina with age.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of incense does it hold?
Stick incense only—the rod at the fisherman's seat holds one slender stick at an upward angle. The package includes the burner without incense, so you will need your own sticks; standard tapering incense matches the listing's use.
How much space does it need on my desk?
The raft measures 25*4.6*4 cm, so plan for a flat strip about 25 cm long and 5 cm wide. Its low, elongated shape also fits on a tea tray or a shelf edge.
Where does the ash fall?
Because the burning tip sits above the raft deck, ash drops onto the piece itself rather than the table. Even so, place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface and clear cooled ash after each use.
Will the golden brass color stay the same?
The alloy carries a warm brass tone that, like copper-family metals, slowly develops a natural patina with exposure to air and handling. Keeping it dry and wiping with a soft cloth preserves the brighter look longer.
Is this a good gift for a tea or reading desk?
Yes—the fisherman-and-bamboo scene suits tea tables, studies, and office desks, and the piece works as decoration even when unlit. Just note the recipient will need to supply incense sticks separately.
