This Fisherman Zen Ceramic Incense Burner is a long, narrow boat-shaped stick incense holder made of ceramic with a warm bronze-brown finish. A small white seated figure rests at one end beneath a woven-pattern canopy, and the hull tapers to a fine point at the bow. Inserted at the figure's side, a stick incense angles out over the bow like a cast fishing line, making it a quiet centerpiece for a desk, shelf, or tea table.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
The fisherman's boat: In Chinese poetry and painting tradition, the lone angler drifting in a small skiff has long been read as an image of a quiet life close to water and away from the crowd, traditionally associated with contentment and stillness of mind; this burner renders that scene in miniature ceramic form. The seated white figure: set against the dark bronze-toned hull, the unglazed pale figure echoes the restrained, plain-and-calm aesthetic prized in Chan-influenced literati art and tea-room decoration. Incense as fishing line: the slanted stick incense completes the picture, with its thin trail of smoke rising where the line would meet the water.

Note: The above data is from manual measurement and there is a slight deviation. This piece is handmade and natural, so it may present some irregularities, and due to lighting effects the color may vary slightly from what is shown in pictures. Never leave a burning incense stick unattended, and take the burner out of use before sleeping or cleaning the surface.
Why You'll Love This Burner
- A scene, not just a holder: the boat, canopy, and seated figure give the piece a clear narrative identity that reads well from across a room.
- Suits tea desks and workspaces: at 30.5cm long but only about 4cm high, it sits low and unobtrusive on a tea tray, shelf edge, or writing desk.
- Handmade ceramic character: each piece shows small irregularities in the glaze and form, so no two burners look exactly alike.
Care Instructions
Keep the burner away from prolonged moisture and harsh cleaners; wipe the ceramic surface with a dry or barely damp soft cloth and let it dry fully before use. Empty cooled ash regularly, keep ash from blocking the incense hole, and place the piece on a stable, level surface away from the edge of the desk.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it come with incense?
No. The package includes the ceramic burner only, without incense. It is made for standard stick incense, which inserts at the figure's side and angles out over the bow.
Where does the ash fall?
The long, slightly hollowed hull catches most of the ash along its length, which is also why the piece works best on a desk or tea table rather than being moved around while burning. Empty cooled ash with a soft cloth or brush.
Is a 30.5cm slim boat stable on a shelf?
The flat bottom runs most of the hull's length, so on a level surface it sits steadily despite its slender shape. As with any ceramic piece, place it away from edges and avoid knocking the end that extends over the desk.
Can I use it as a tea-pet style ornament without burning incense?
Yes. The figure-and-boat form works as a tea-desk or shelf decoration on its own, and the listing describes it as both an incense burner and decoration. If you do burn incense, keep the piece dry and clean ash before the next use.
How should I clean the bronze-toned glaze?
Wipe with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid soaking the ceramic, abrasive pads, and chemical cleaners, which can dull the surface finish; let any damp spot dry fully before returning it to display.
