This Ceramic Prayer Pose Monk Statue is a small handcrafted display figure: a childlike monk with closed eyes and hands pressed together at the chest, seated on a rounded, glossy celadon-green cushion. The head and arms are left in a matte, warm brown clay finish while the base carries a soft crackled glaze, so the two textures play against each other. At only a few inches tall, it sits naturally on a shelf, desk, windowsill, or tea tray, and five pose options are listed.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Seated figure: The statue follows the classic seated iconography of Buddhist-influenced art - softly closed eyes, a serene expression, and a crown of spiral curls. In Buddhist tradition such a figure is regarded as a symbol of compassion, quiet, and introspection, and here it is reinterpreted in a youthful, gentle style rather than a formal one.
Joined hands: The prayer pose presses both palms together at the chest, a longstanding gesture of respect and calm composure in Buddhist art, used here purely as the figure's sculpted posture. The matte unglazed upper body against the glazed green seat is a deliberate finish contrast made in the same firing.

Why You'll Love This Statue
- Compact, readable design: The joined-hands pose and rounded cushion make the figure instantly recognizable even at its small 5.5-9 cm scale.
- Five distinct poses: Prayer, Resting, Reflection, Meditating, and Rest versions each have their own dimensions, so you can pick a posture and footprint that fit the spot you have in mind.
- Two finishes in one piece: The matte clay figure against the glossy crackled glaze base gives it depth under ordinary room lighting, and hand-modeling means slight irregularities from piece to piece.
Care Instructions
- Keep the statue indoors and away from standing water or damp surfaces.
- Dust it with a soft, dry cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners and solvents on the glaze.
- Set it on a stable, level surface where it will not be knocked over.
- Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can dull the contrast between the matte and glazed finishes over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which pose option is shown in the photo?
The photo shows the Prayer version - hands pressed together at the chest on the green cushion, measuring about 1.97*1.97*3.35 in (5*5*8.5cm). The other four options (Resting, Reflection, Meditating, Rest) each have their own posture and size listed in the details.
How big is it - will it fit a small shelf or desk?
All five versions are palm-sized. The heights range from about 2.17 in (5.5 cm) for the smallest Resting figure to about 3.54 in (9 cm) for the Meditating one, with footprints of roughly 1.2-2.2 in (3-5.5 cm), so it suits a desk corner, bookshelf gap, or tea tray.
Is the whole statue glazed and shiny?
No. The figure's head and body are left in a matte, sandy brown clay finish, and only the rounded cushion base is glossy with a pale green crackled glaze. That contrast is the intended look, and because each piece is handmade and fired individually, slight variation in color and surface is normal.
What comes in the package?
The listing includes one statue only (Statue*1). Any books, plants, or trays styled around it in photos are props and are not part of the package.
Can I display it outdoors?
It is intended for indoor display. Keep it out of rain and damp areas, and bring it somewhere dry if it is used on a covered patio; a soft dry cloth is all the cleaning it needs.
