This Hand-Painted Dragon and Phoenix Ceramic Kung Fu Teacup is a single white porcelain tea cup whose surface is covered by a hand-painted mythical creature — a gilded dragon with a teal mane drifting through grey cloud bands on the version shown — and it arrives in a gift box. The listing offers golden dragon, red dragon, and red phoenix versions in three sizes from 130 to 175 milliliters, made for gongfu tea sessions at the desk or on a tea tray, and packed ready for gifting.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
- Dragon: The dragon is a longstanding motif in Chinese decorative art, traditionally regarded as a symbol of strength and good fortune. In Chinese folk belief the dragon is also closely tied to clouds and rain, which is why it is painted here moving through bands of swirling cloud rather than floating on a plain background.
- Phoenix: The red phoenix version carries the fenghuang, the dragon's customary counterpart in Chinese tradition. Paired together in folk art, the two figures are traditionally read as an emblem of balance and harmony between husband and wife, which is why the two motifs are offered as matching options of one cup design.
- Cloud Detail: The scrolling cloud pattern framing the figures is a classic support motif in Chinese ceramic painting, traditionally used to place the dragon and phoenix in their customary setting of the sky.

Why You'll Love This Tea Cup
- The painted figure spans the whole cup surface, so the design stays legible from every angle as you turn the cup while drinking.
- The gift box means the cup can be handed over as a present without any extra wrapping, a practical detail for birthday, housewarming, or festival gifts.
- Three sizes between 130 and 175 milliliters let you match the cup to your brewing style, from short oolong pours to a fuller everyday mug.
Care Instructions
- Hand wash with warm water and a soft cloth; avoid abrasive pads, steel wool, and harsh chemical cleaners that can scratch the painted surface and gilded outlines.
- Rinse tea residue promptly after use and dry fully before storing to keep the white glaze bright.
- Avoid sudden extreme temperature changes, and keep the cup out of prolonged damp; store it in its gift box or another dry place when not in use.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the golden dragon, red dragon, and red phoenix versions?
All three are the same cup form and glaze; only the hand-painted figure changes. The golden dragon version shows a gilded dragon with a teal mane among grey clouds, the red dragon version uses the same dragon composition in red tones, and the red phoenix version replaces the dragon with a phoenix. Pick the dragon or the phoenix depending on whether you want a single cup or one half of a matched dragon-and-phoenix pair.
Which size should I choose?
The listing gives three sizes: 6.5cm*5.5cm holding 130ml, 7.5cm*5.5cm holding 140ml, and 7.8cm*6cm holding 175ml. The 130ml cup is the classic small gongfu tasting size; the 175ml version works better if you drink larger, simpler infusions. Sizes are manually measured, so allow a slight deviation.
Does the cup come in a gift box?
Yes. The cup is presented in a gift box as stated in the listing. Tea accessories such as teapots or trays that appear in the photos are photo props and are not included.
Will the painted pattern match the listing photo exactly?
Not exactly. Each cup is hand-painted and fired at high temperature, and kiln conditions shift the finished pattern, so small differences in color, brushwork, and size are expected and are part of what makes each piece individual.
