This Koi Waterfall Backflow Incense Burner is a tall, pod-shaped ceramic sculpture in glossy teal glaze with gold-toned edges. Inside, a carved koi swims upward over a series of small stepped falls, and a backflow incense cone rests on the peak so the smoke spills down the tiers and pools around the dark, splash-shaped base. Standing about 22 cm tall, it is built for a shelf, altar, or desk where the falling smoke can be watched at eye level.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Koi fish: In Chinese folk tradition the koi is a longstanding motif traditionally associated with perseverance and achievement, and because the Chinese word for fish sounds like the word for surplus, fish imagery has long been used to express abundance; paired koi also appear alongside yin-yang imagery in feng shui practice. Here a single koi is modeled mid-leap over the cascading steps, turning the smoke path into a small river scene.
Waterfall tiers: The stepped channel is a functional and decorative device drawn from garden waterfalls — it gives the descending smoke somewhere to flow; it carries no claim beyond the visual effect.

Why You'll Love This Incense Burner
The waterfall effect is the whole point: with a backflow cone, the smoke behaves like moving water, tracing the carved tiers and the leaping koi before settling in the base. At 650 g the piece has real heft for a tabletop object, and the crackled teal glaze with gilded rim catches light even when the incense is out. It suits a meditation corner, a tea table, or a living-room shelf as a conversation piece.
Care Instructions
Let the burner cool fully before moving it, and rinse cooled ash residue from the splash base with water, then dry it completely. Wipe the glazed surfaces with a soft, damp cloth; avoid abrasives, which scratch the gloss and the gold-toned edges. Keep it away from harsh cleaners and perfumes, and store it dry and level when not in use.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of incense does this burner use?
It is designed for backflow incense cones, which sit on the small platform at the top; the sinking smoke creates the waterfall effect down the tiers. A standard stick incense can also be used in the front holder for everyday scenting.
Does the smoke really flow downward?
Yes, with backflow cones. Their denser smoke travels down the carved channel instead of rising, spilling over each step and collecting near the base, like a slow-motion waterfall. Regular sticks will not produce this effect.
Are there other designs to choose from?
The listing notes two pattern options for this burner. Check the style selector on the product page for the designs currently available before ordering.
Is it stable on a desk or shelf?
The piece measures 12.5*22*9CM and weighs 650g, so it sits with some heft on a level surface. Place it away from edges and drafts, which can disturb the sinking smoke.
