This Fu Character Gourd and Copper Coin Shadow Box is a tall, narrow home decor ornament: a medium density fiberboard frame with a warm wood-tone finish holds a layered paper scene. The panel shows a painted gourd filled with floral scrollwork and a gold Fu character, two round copper coins with square holes mounted above it, and vertical columns of red and black calligraphic blessing phrases on a cream ground. At roughly 9 x 30 cm it works as a shelf, console or desk display, and four pattern versions are offered.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Gourd (hulu): in Chinese folk tradition the gourd's name sounds close to a phrase for fortune and prosperity, so it has long been treated as an auspicious emblem in folk art, and its many seeds were traditionally read as a sign of abundance; here it is the painted centerpiece of the panel. Copper coins: the round coin with a square hole served as China's historic currency, and in folk belief its image is traditionally associated with wealth and good fortune; two such coins sit in raised rings above the gourd. Fu character: the Fu (福) character is the classic Spring Festival blessing, traditionally displayed on doors and windows — often hung upside down as a wordplay meaning "fortune has arrived" — and here it is written in gold across the gourd's body. Calligraphy and seal: the scene is framed by columns of traditional blessing phrases with a small red seal mark, echoing the layout of a Chinese New Year print.

Why You'll Love This Shadow Box
The layered construction gives the gourd, coins and calligraphy real depth instead of a flat printed surface, so the piece reads clearly from a distance on a shelf. Its tall, slim footprint (about 1.57 inches deep) fits narrow spaces such as bookcase edges, entryway consoles and desks. As a housewarming or Spring Festival gift, the Fu character and coin imagery make the decorative theme immediately recognizable.
Care Instructions
Keep the frame away from water, humidity and direct sunlight to protect the paper scene and the fiberboard. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth; do not use liquid cleaners or harsh chemicals. If it is moved or stored, wrap it and keep it dry and upright.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the exact dimensions, and will it fit a narrow shelf?
About 3.54 x 11.81 x 1.57 inches (9 x 30 x 4 cm). It is tall and slim, so it suits shallow shelves, console tables and desk edges where a wider frame would not fit.
Can I put my own photo in it?
No — this is a shadow box ornament with a fixed printed artwork panel (gourd, copper coins and Fu character calligraphy). The "photo frame" wording in the title refers to the framed, layered display style, not to a slot for your own pictures.
Do the four pattern options differ in size or material?
The frame size and medium density fiberboard construction are the same across the listing; the four options vary in the printed scene and calligraphy layout. Compare the pattern images to pick the wording or color scheme you prefer.
How do I clean and maintain it?
Dust it with a soft, dry cloth only. Keep it away from moisture, bathrooms and kitchens with heavy steam, and avoid liquid or chemical cleaners, which can warp the fiberboard and stain the paper scene.
