This handmade copper-brass figurine depicts a single koi fish rearing upward with its mouth open, its body covered in carved scales and its fins spread along a sculpted wave base. At 5.5*4cm and 120g, it is a small metal ornament made for a desk, shelf or cabinet top.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Koi fish: In Chinese folk tradition the koi is a longstanding emblem of perseverance and achievement, drawn from the legend of the koi leaping the Dragon Gate; the Chinese word for fish also sounds like the word for surplus, so the koi has traditionally been regarded as a symbol of abundance as well.
Leaping pose: The open-mouthed, upward-curving stance echoes that traditional leaping-koi imagery, with the wave base cast as part of the piece to suggest the water the fish is rising from.
Carved scale detail: Individual scales, dorsal fin and tail are worked into the metal by hand, giving the surface a textured, light-catching finish typical of small Chinese animal ornaments.

Why You'll Love This Figurine
- Recognizable motif: The upward leaping shape and detailed scales make the koi read instantly, so it works as a small statement piece rather than a generic ornament.
- Heft in a small footprint: At 120g in a palm-sized 5.5*4cm form, it feels substantial and sits steadily on a desk or shelf edge.
- Hand-finished character: Each figurine is handcrafted, and the antique-toned brass finish varies slightly from piece to piece.
Care Instructions
- Keep the figurine dry and away from prolonged moisture; avoid displaying it in bathrooms or humid spots.
- Keep it clear of water, perfume, lotion and harsh chemicals, and set it aside while washing or cleaning nearby.
- Dust with a soft, dry cloth when needed, and store it in a dry place if it goes back into storage.
Frequently Asked Questions
How big is the koi figurine in real terms?
It measures 5.5*4cm and weighs 120g, so it is roughly palm-sized with a noticeable metal heft. That scale fits a desk corner, a shelf between books, or a curio cabinet; compare it with a phone to picture the footprint, and note the listed size is hand-measured with slight deviation.
What metal is it, and will the color change over time?
The listing identifies the material as copper/brass. Brass has a warm tone and develops a natural patina with wear and air exposure, so the highlights will mellow and the recesses may darken gradually — that aging is normal for the material, not a defect.
Does the fish stand on its own?
Yes. The leaping fish is cast together with a wave-shaped base that spreads under the tail, so the figurine stands upright on a flat surface without a separate mount.
Is this a good gift for a housewarming?
It is a common small housewarming or desk gift because the koi is a familiar auspicious motif in Chinese decorative tradition and the compact size suits most shelves. Each piece is handmade, so expect minor irregularities and slight color variation from the photos.
