This Copper Manjusri Bodhisattva Statue is a small cast figure in an antique bronze finish, depicting the bodhisattva seated on a recumbent lion above a carved lotus base. The right hand raises a flame-tipped sword, the left holds a scripture at the chest, and an ornate crown frames the calm face. At palm size it is made for display on a shelf, desk or meditation corner.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Manjusri Bodhisattva: In Mahayana Buddhist tradition Manjusri is venerated as the bodhisattva traditionally regarded as the embodiment of wisdom, and is classically shown as a serene, crowned youth. This statue follows that iconographic convention in its crowned figure and composed expression.
Flame Sword: In Buddhist iconography Manjusri's raised sword traditionally symbolizes the sharpness of wisdom cutting through ignorance; here the blade is cast with a flame-like edge and held upright in the right hand.
Scripture: The book held at the figure's chest represents the Prajnaparamita, the wisdom texts of Mahayana Buddhism, traditionally carried by Manjusri as a sign of the teachings. The statue renders it as a small bound volume resting against the arm.
Lion Mount: The lion is Manjusri's traditional mount, and in Buddhist imagery the lion's roar has long been used as a metaphor for the fearless proclamation of the teachings. The figure is seated astride a stylized lion whose head projects at the front of the base.
Lotus Base: Rising clean from muddy water to bloom, the lotus is traditionally regarded in Buddhist art as a symbol of purity and emergence; the statue's throne is cast as a ring of carved lotus petals.

Why You'll Love This Piece
- At 49*64mm the statue is compact enough for a bookshelf, work desk or travel bag, yet the crown, sword, lion and lotus petals all read clearly at that scale.
- The 117g copper body and wide base give it a solid, stable feel rather than a lightweight resin one.
- The antique patina deepens the carved recesses, so the ornament has an aged, collectible character from day one.
Care Instructions
- Dust the statue with a soft dry cloth; avoid liquid cleaners and polishes, which can strip the antique finish.
- Keep it in a dry place away from moisture, which encourages uneven spotting on copper.
- Set it on a flat, stable surface away from direct heat and prolonged sunlight.
- Handle by the base rather than the raised sword, which is the thinnest point of the casting.
Frequently Asked Questions
Exactly how big is the statue?
The listing specifies 49*64mm (Length*Height) — about 2 inches wide and just under 2.5 inches tall, roughly palm-sized — and a weight of 117g. If you need it to fit a specific niche, compare those numbers before ordering.
Where does a piece this size display well?
Its scale suits a desk, bookshelf, entryway table or a small altar or meditation corner, where the carved details can be seen up close. It is a decorative object rather than a large statement piece.
Will the copper change appearance over time?
Yes. Copper develops a natural patina with age and air exposure, so the antique finish will gradually deepen and soften in tone. Keeping the statue dry and dusting it gently slows the change if you prefer the original look.
Is this appropriate as a gift?
It is a common choice. Manjusri is a familiar figure in Buddhist-influenced decorative art, and small copper statues like this are often given for housewarmings or to people who collect Buddhist art. The cultural notes above describe traditional symbolism, not any effect the piece produces.
Note: Cultural references describe traditional beliefs and design inspiration only. They are not claims that the product produces any actual effect.
