Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Yin-Yang: In Chinese philosophy, the yin-yang figure is traditionally regarded as a symbol of the interdependence of opposites — light and dark, active and receptive — each carrying the seed of the other. Here it is carved in frosted relief at the exact center of the disc, with the two dots rendered as small circles.
Five Sacred Mountains: In Chinese tradition the five sacred mountains have been revered for over two thousand years as the peaks marking the east, south, west, north, and center of the realm, and their images were traditionally regarded as emblems of stability and an ordered world.
