This handheld Tibetan Prayer Wheel pairs a gold-toned brass mantra drum with a smooth sandalwood handle. The cylinder is engraved with raised Tibetan script between fine filigree bands, a small finial crowns the top, and a brass pendant on a braided cord hangs at the side as the counterweight that keeps the wheel turning. It works as a shelf or altar display piece and as a handheld object for quiet reflection.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Om Mani Padme Hum: The six-syllable mantra engraved around the drum is one of the most widely known recitations in Tibetan Buddhism, traditionally associated with compassion, focus, and wisdom. In Tibetan tradition the mantra is recited while a hand-held prayer wheel is turned, and the raised lettering wrapping the full circumference of the cylinder carries that reference into the design; the pendant weight on the cord helps the drum rotate when the handle moves.

Why You'll Love This Prayer Wheel
- The engraved mantra drum and gold-toned finish give it an instantly recognizable silhouette on a shelf or desk.
- At 232g with a smooth wooden grip, it feels substantial and balanced in the hand.
- The sandalwood handle shows its own natural grain and warm tone, so no two pieces look exactly alike.
Care Instructions
Keep the wheel away from water, sweat, perfume, and harsh chemicals, since moisture can dull both the brass drum and the wooden handle. Wipe the metal and the wood separately with a soft, dry cloth, and store the piece in a dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the drum actually spin?
Yes. The cylinder rotates on the handle, and the small brass pendant on the braided cord acts as a counterweight: as you move the handle, the weight swings and keeps the drum turning, following the design of traditional hand-held prayer wheels.
Is this meant to be worn or carried?
It is a handheld display piece, not jewelry. At 7 x 19 cm and 232 g it is sized to sit on a shelf, console, or altar table, or to be held and turned in the hand.
Does the sandalwood handle have a scent?
Sandalwood is naturally fragrant, and the handle shows its own wood grain and tone. The scent is subtle and softens with age; keeping the wood dry helps preserve it.
Would it make a thoughtful gift?
It suits anyone drawn to Tibetan Buddhist art or meditation-style interiors. The engraved mantra drum is the visual focus, so the piece reads clearly as a prayer-wheel design even before it is picked up.
