This Kwan Yin Avalokitesvara Brass and Copper Statue shows the bodhisattva standing barefoot on a lotus pedestal in front of a tall almond-shaped openwork aura. The polished gold-toned figure wears a long robe carved with fine scale-like folds, one hand raised in a classic gesture of reassurance, the other lowered at the side holding a small vessel. The pierced backdrop is filled with continuous scrolling vine patterns and studded with small round medallions, each containing a miniature seated Buddha. At 41.5 cm overall, it is sized for a desk, sideboard, or home altar.
Cultural Symbolism & Artistic Design
Kwan Yin standing: In East Asian Buddhist tradition, Kwan Yin — the bodhisattva traditionally regarded as the embodiment of compassion — is shown standing as one of her classic forms, walking among the world rather than enthroned. The raised palm is the traditional gesture of reassurance, and the small vessel at the side is her characteristic attribute; both identify the figure in Buddhist iconography.
Miniature Buddhas in the aura: The medallions of seated Buddhas set around the halo follow a traditional device of Kwan Yin imagery, in which small Buddha figures appear on her crown and aura to show her as emanating from the Buddha — most often Amitabha, regarded in Buddhist texts as her spiritual teacher. The openwork here carries that motif in cast form.
Scrollwork aura: The almond-shaped backdrop is pierced with continuous interlacing vine scrolls, a decorative language long used in Buddhist sacred art to render the radiance around an enlightened figure as luminous, open pattern rather than solid light.
Lotus pedestal: The figure stands on a tier of open lotus petals above a round stepped base. Rising clean from muddy water to bloom, the lotus is traditionally regarded in Buddhist art as a symbol of purity and quiet emergence, and a lotus seat marks the ground beneath sacred figures.

Why You'll Love This Statue
The standing silhouette with its tall pierced aura makes the piece read as a complete devotional composition, not just a small figure — light passes through the openwork and casts the scroll pattern onto the wall behind it. The bright gold tone and the row of miniature Buddha medallions keep the detail interesting up close. With an 18 cm footprint it fits a desk or shelf while still standing out at 41.5 cm high.
Care Instructions
Keep the statue dry and out of direct sunlight, away from moisture and chemicals. Dust the polished figure with a soft dry cloth, and clean the pierced aura with a soft brush rather than a cloth so threads do not catch in the openwork. Set it on a stable surface that supports about 5300 g, and lift by the solid base when relocating it, not by the top of the halo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the figure Kwan Yin or a Buddha?
The listing identifies it as Avalokitesvara (Kwan Yin) in standing form. The raised-hand gesture, the small vessel, and the miniature seated Buddhas worked into the aura are all traditional markers of Kwan Yin imagery in East Asian Buddhist art. The religious elements are presented as decorative and cultural reference only.
What are the real dimensions on my shelf?
The listing gives 18*41.5cm overall (diameter by height): the standing statue itself is 27.5cm tall, and the backdrop aura rises to 35.5cm behind it, with the full piece reaching 41.5cm. Allow 18 cm of round footprint and a little clearance for the openwork edges.
How heavy is it, and is the base stable?
It weighs about 5300g with a round stepped base 18 cm across, so it stands firmly on a level desk or altar table. The mass sits low through the pedestal, and the pierced aura is light for its height, which keeps the centre of gravity manageable.
Will the openwork aura be delicate?
The backdrop is cast metal with fine pierced scrollwork, so the edges are thinner than the solid figure. It is safe for normal display, but avoid running cloths across the openwork and handle the piece by the base when moving it.
